EXCESS WEIGHT

Welcome to www.nutritionhelp.com !

Did you know that losing excess weight can often be helped by Nutritional Therapy? Not by counting calories, but by helping the body to work more efficiently. In my clinical practice, I have seen it happen time and time again - and now you can receive tailor-made advice online from www.nutritionhelp.com!

My name is Erica White. I’m Nutritional Director of Nutritionhelp, and also a Fellow of the Institute for Optimum Nutrition and an Honorary Fellow of the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy. I have now retired from clinical practice, but we have set up an online Questionnaire and Report system which can give you all the advice you need, with an optional facility to have contact with one of our associate team of qualified Nutritionists.

I’m going to answer a few questions about excess weight which I hope might be helpful to you.

Q. Erica, do you think that a calorie-controlled diet is the best way to lose weight?

No I don’t, because with this sort of dieting it is incredibly easy to put back the lost weight once you’ve stopped the diet. This is because when you eat less food, your metabolic rate slows down, so that when your food intake returns to normal, your metabolic rate stays slow which means your body is unable to burn the extra calories. In my practice I’ve seen very many people who had tried all sorts of diets and joined their local slimming clubs – but been totally disheartened because they lost no weight at all. There has to be another way.

Q. Do you have any idea what that might be?

Yes I do. One factor which is very commonly over-looked is the question of food sensitivity. Finding and avoiding a culprit food will often lead to a speedy and encouraging weight-loss. Let me explain why this is. When your immune system has difficulty tolerating a certain food but you continue to eat it because you don't realise that it's causing problems, your body retains fluid in order to dilute the offending food and reduce its adverse effects. The more this food is eaten, the more fluid is retained – causing an accompanying increase in weight. If the culprit food can be detected and then avoided, this unwanted fluid can be readily eliminated –with a consequent loss of weight. Fluid can be eliminated much faster than fat can be burned, so in these circumstances weight-loss can often be surprisingly fast. In fact, people who were only a little overweight to start with can become worried when they see the pounds melting away – especially when their friends and family tell them how gaunt they look!
Fluid lost from the face has a way of showing itself that can be quite concerning, but in fact it is important that all the unhealthy fluid should be off-loaded.

Q. What are the most common causes of food sensitivity?

The first thing to mention is leaky gut syndrome, because this allows particles of food to escape into the bloodstream before they are fully digested, causing the immune system to have a sensitivity reaction to that food, which in turn encourages the retention of fluid whenever the food is eaten – and fluid adds weight to the body.

Q. So what causes leaky gut syndrome?

There are a number of causes, including a lack of protective antibodies on the intestinal lining due to the effects of stress. But one of the most common causes of leaky gut syndrome is an overgrowth of the common yeast, Candida albicans, because it burrows into the gut wall making it porous. In this situation, it’s important to take steps to bring Candida under control with appropriate Nutritional Therapy so that further steps can then be taken to heal the leaky gut and overcome any food sensitivities.

Q. Is Candida itself responsible for fluid retention and excess weight?

Very often it is. It’s quite remarkable how many people, when advised to follow an anti-candida diet, lose a surprising amount of weight even within the first month. This is because someone with an overgrowth of yeast will have developed a sensitivity to yeasty foods in their diet, with the result that their body has retained fluid which in turn has increased their weight. As soon as they are told to avoid all yeasty foods, they start to eliminate the unwanted fluid. This means that a very welcome bonus of an anti-candida regime which is undertaken to overcome symptoms associated with Candida overgrowth is that people usually find it surprisingly easy to lose the excess weight which they have struggled to lose for years.

Q. Do you have an example of someone who experienced a dramatic weight-loss?

Yes, I had a client who was a young woman of about 30. She was not very tall and she weighed 17½ stones (245 pounds). She was under a hospital consultant who warned that she probably had only a few years to live unless she could lose weight because both her parents had died in their thirties of obesity-related diseases. But whatever the hospital advised her to do made no difference. She could not lose weight. No-one had thought of the possibility of a food sensitivity. When I first met her, I realised that she had a great many symptoms associated with Candida, so I advised a yeast-free,sugar-free diet. In the first two weeks, she lost a whole stone (14 pounds) – and she went on to lose another five stones. What’s more, she said it had been the easiest thing in the world, because she never had to go hungry and she never had to count calories – she just needed to avoid all foods which had yeast or sugar in them.

Q. What would you say to someone who is looking for answers to their weight problem, even though they’ve tried every type of diet they’ve come across?

If you haven’t considered it before, you may well find that Nutritional Therapy could be very helpful – not only in tracing any culprit foods which might be leading to fluid-retention, but also in helping your body to overcome the underlying problems and increase the efficiency of your metabolism. Of course, we can make no claims for you as an individual, but we can say that many people have seen significant improvement.

Maybe you would like to register for an online report. A detailed Questionnaire enables you to be provided with personalised advice based on my clinical experience over nearly twenty years.

For just £47 you will receive an extremely detailed report giving tailor-made nutritional advice to help you on your road to recovery. Read how the system works on www.nutritionhelp.com/quest_more.php.
