HORMONAL PROBLEMS (Premenstrual Syndrome/PMS, period pain, heavy periods, irregular periods, endometriosis, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome/ PCOS, infertility, menopausal hot flushes) Welcome to www.nutritionhelp.com. Did you know that any type of female hormone-related problem can often by helped by Nutritional Therapy? In my clinical practice, I have seen it happen time and time again - and now you can receive tailor-made advice online from www.nutritionhelp.com! My name is Erica White. I’m Nutritional Director of Nutritionhelp, a Fellow of the Institute for Optimum Nutrition and an Honorary Fellow of the British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy. I have now retired from clinical practice, but we have set up an online Questionnaire and Report system which can give you all the advice you need, with an optional facility to have contact with one of our associate team of qualified Nutritionists. I’m going to answer a few questions about hormonal problems which I hope might be helpful to you. Q. Why do you say that hormonal problems can be helped by Nutritional Therapy? Because although they can be due to many different factors, each of those factors can be helped when a nutritional programme is undertaken to improve the nutritional status of the body and to deal with other possible influences like an overgrowth of the common yeast, Candida albicans. Yeast infection, or candidiasis, is extremely common and has a direct influence on hormone function. Unfortunately, if any form of hormonal intervention such as the Pill or HRT has been taken, it will have created a vicious circle by weakening the immune system and encouraging candida activity – but it can be overcome! Q. Apart from Candida, what other factors might be involved? Stress is a very common problem, and also poor detoxification processes. Nutritional deficiencies play a major role and are unfortunately all too common due to our present-day eating habits, especially a lack of essential fatty acids which are crucial for the efficient working of our hormones. Q. Starting with premenstrual symptoms, some women suffer very severely. Can they really be helped by Nutritional Therapy? It would be extremely rare if they weren’t! On a good nutritional programme, I literally expect to see PMS overcome – things like depression, irritability, tiredness, bloating, headaches and breast tenderness. Q. What about period problems – things like heavy or painful periods, or irregular or non-existent menstruation? The same thing applies. A good nutritional programme is an invaluable place to start, and can do away with the need for hormone treatment or painkiller medication. Q. Menopausal symptoms cause immense suffering for many women. Is there really an answer to the misery of hot flushes, for instance? Once again it comes back to improving the nutritional status and ensuring that Candida is brought under control. Many women who are taking HRT to minimise their symptoms find that they can stop it without any ill-effects within a few weeks of starting a tailor-made nutritional programme. And while they are tackling the root causes of their problems, they can be advised about various herbal supplements to help alleviate their symptoms until they no longer occur. Q. What about diagnosed conditions like Endometriosis and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome? Yes, even conditions like these which have such a stronghold on the body can often be helped by the right approach in Nutritional Therapy. Q. Many women’s lives are ruled by their hormones. What would you say to someone who is suffering from any type of hormone-related problem? If you haven’t considered it before, you may well find that appropriate Nutritional Therapy could be very helpful. Of course, we can make no claims for you as an individual, but we can say that many people have seen significant improvement. Maybe you would like to register for an online report from www.nutritionhelp.com. A detailed Questionnaire enables you to be provided with personalised advice based on my clinical experience over nearly twenty years. In addition, it will tell you about various optional supplements which can help to relieve your symptoms while you are tackling the root cause.
